- The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix): this show has so many things going for it. 1.) The hilarious and witty Tina Fey is behind it 2.) It’s about a girl who goes to NYC after being a part of an apocalyptic cult. There are strangely many things that I can relate to in this show because of some of my and my parents’ backgrounds and experiences 3.) The episodes are only about 20 minutes which can be kind of refreshing 4.) It’s pretty upbeat and I really like the humor. It can get at a lot of underlying issues in our culture by using well-played humor–which is one thing I love about Tina Fey’s work.
- Rev (BBC–you can watch all of it on Hulu): Seriously under the radar but excellent show. I like this show because I can relate to/understand a lot of it. It’s about a Church of England priest from the country who goes to pastor an inner city church. It can get to a lot of the random things you run into with ministry and has a lot of similarities to an Anglican church. I discovered it via the Mockingbird article “When Your Life Inevitably Falls Apart” and have been hooked ever since.
- Parks and Recreation: Hilarious and heartwarming.
